The book
Short stories with a twist
Susan is happily married but, one day, her son asks her an unexpected question. Susan had believed that her secret would be safe until she was ready to reveal it. She sits on the bed and sobs. How is she to respond to her son? How will he react?
You can enjoy discovering the answers to these and other questions in the title story of John Eaves’ first book. This collection of short stories, many with unexpected “twists” also includes The Cleansing, which achieved a top ten position in the National U3A Short Story Competition in 2024.
“I’ve read these stories several times from their inception to final proofing and they still make me smile, cry or bring a lump to my throat. I hope you, the reader, get as much enjoyment from them as I have.”

Talks
Stories, songs and social history
John’s talks consist, in part, of social history in which he takes his audience back in time to describe events which might have affected their parents or grandparents and sometimes generations before that. The year 1381 appears in one of his talks and 1697 in another. Having set the scene he then sings a song or plays a tune which is relevant to the period or the events he has described.
